SOCIAL MINISTRIES AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Social Ministries will continue our local food pantry and other holiday giving and we are reaching out to other food ministries locally for a combined, more effective service to the community. Our youth group has joined LCCC’s quarterly meal service at the Judeo-Christian Outreach Center as well as our support for the local UCC homeless shelter program each fall.
This year we are emphasizing support for more projects that can become self-sustaining such as the Heifer Project which provides families with reproductive livestock creating food, income and continued growth. Another self-sustaining project that we expect to participate in this year is micro-banks that offer small loans to local artisans and entrepreneurs, mostly women, who are often the sole support of their families.
We will sponsor Bread for the World’s letter writing campaign to encourage our government to support projects whose goal is to end hunger everywhere, including the United States. Shockingly, the US has one of the highest rates of childhood mal-nutrition among industrial countries. For the holidays, a booklet will be available to our members ; the booklet will list organizations to which our members can donate in honor or memory of friends and family.
All members of LCCC are welcome to join and support any of our projects locally or nationally. Think globally – act locally to feed the hungry, cloth the naked and work for an end to poverty.
